challenge through charity

Challenging message at Shema yesterday. In fact, it was no less than life changing. Especially with the events, which took place this whole weekend, it hit home hard. The guy (Josh) spoke about how our possessions can simply possess us and how this is a critical weed to uproot. His words took on a new meaning with the Katrina hurricane and the story of people who die because of illnesses due to not wearing shoes. Who would have ever thought that a message become so practical, that you would have the possibility to leave your favorite shoes at the door and walk home barefoot in the pouring rain. The purpose was to avoid us thinking: "yeah, well, I'll maybe think about this tomorrow or the day after". For me, the evening triggered off a lot of thoughts and actions on how I want to reinvest my financial seed. Not only for myself (like in the case of the villa purchase), but also for others: for the needy and those reaching out to the needy. It wasn't just another charity talk, but a question to my outlook on life. Awesome.

    Proverbs 30:7-9

A steward can manage vast accounts and still receive daily bread without claiming ownership, and the privilege of walking a mile barefoot can better direct the use of shoes to protect your feet while serving out daily bread to others.
Amazing the swiftness with which we lay illicit claim to blessings that are placed in our lives for God's glory and others' benefit...maybe less people would be overweight if they realized that Man does not live by bread alone...and many people are overweight in terms of material possessions at least as damagingly as others are physically.
