mc mike

For Dave:
We ate here after Shema, this branch was located literally next door to our good Mc D*** friends. From a marketing (brand) perspective, this is downright shocking. The branch used to be called Mc Wong! In fact, even if I were Nike, I would have a fit. Food wasn't too bad though and they even have rootbeer! In Europe!

Looks like somebody had fun grabbing as many mass marketing icons as possible and throwing them together in a manner hopefully not to infringe on trademarks! Fast food Asian-style can definitely be good...something more healthy-seeming about noodle or rice bowls than burgers and fries.
I watched parts of "Super Size Me" one evening on the ship, and wonder how a budding marketeer approaches the ethics of marketing such a hazardous commodity as fast food?

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was healthy. I ordered the fried raviolis. They came out looking like grease ridden chips with a semblance of meat for that whole milimeter squared of meat. Still tasty.
As for "Super Size Me", I have heard it hasn't even affected their sales. What a company!*

Just read the "budding marketeer" and I suppose you are bringing me into the post.

In marketing an unhealthy brand (which you refer to as "unethical"), you just don't bring up the unhealthy side and instead play on the opposite to propagate a whisper telling you: "you know, wildebeast, all those media reports were actually lies. We are fine - in fact the best! Buy here! You know you want it." Hence the boring megaphone-type promotion of Mc Salads and the step-o-meter.

Hey, got to give it to them, I tried a salad out once and even got the step-o-meter. Efficient gadget and top idea-marketing from Mc Marketeers. I let myself fall for it.

Forgive me though - I still enjoy a normal plain Mc Greese from time to time. Stuff the salad junk!*

And this is why McDonalds is one of the leading sponsors of the Olympic Games and beer companies significantly bankroll professional sports teams through their advertisements...definitely a sufficient level of plausible deniability while making a clear connection!

Notice I said Asian fast food can be more healthy SEEMING, not actually more healthy. Maybe part of it is I cannot understand the nutrition information at the local Hoka Hoka (most popular Japanese-style fast food joint). On the other hand the average Japanese person is considerably less "super-sized" than the average American, so image does carry over to some level of reality!
