slight strain

This must be a typical evening in the life of Euphonies - trying not to sing along to the e-tunes playing in the background, trying to fry an egg as quietly as possible to match my toast (you can't tell an egg not to spit though) ...

... refraining myself from reading scores of random blogs online - cause it is late already and I could be bothering the peaceful neighbors counting the herds of sheep. Apparently they want to sleep when I get up AND when I hit the sack - man, how much sleep do they need, then? Conforama has gotta lov'em, it must be annoying to have a chipper neighbor so late at night. But wait a minute, I just walked in the door! Ah, mom, is it already bedtime again? Ahh, but then, there were those special attentions, which made the difference when I got back to the flat. Such details become of utmost importance when I get back from work for some reason - don't ask me why:

  • Taking my lens out - a speck of dust was irritating my eye all day!
  • A miraculous free parking space right in front of the building!
  • The bread in the basket is still somewhat fresh - excellent!
  • A moody internet connection, which seems to sense my patience may wear thin - cause it works fine!
  • Locating that pungent smell - why, it is the camenbert hidden behind the tomatoes!
  • Removing the lame excuse for shoes - ouch, are those blisters, or red socks?
  • Realizing that nice smell I have been trying to catch all day is actually my own shampoo!?!

It is always nice to return home after a long day's work. My colleague kindly reminded me I hadn't seen UV rays for 14 hours - but come on, that is because I ate lunch at work today. In fact, I must have been very involved in a project since time just raced by. I loved it today - see, despite what your uni professors tell you, you don't always get to pour out serious amounts of intellectual juice at work. Most of it seems to rot in the brain - I can see the headline now "New yuppies brave the streets with "OJ" on the brain!" So often, quick judgment and appropriate action takes precedence over theoreticizing around a project in a professional context. That was not the case today. Hours on end I spent locked away today, with an aspiration somewhat similar to that of cracking a code. Though the work is still far from finished, the strain on the brain was so much fun! We are doing a lot of work around the business model and the various comms processes at the moment, and it involves disciplined attention span with a fair amount of theoretical knowledge - reminding me I may have gone to school for a reason after all!

Orange Juice frontman suffers brain haemmorhage

Musician Edwyn Collins is seriously ill in hospital after suffering a brain haemorrhage, his management team said today.
The singer and guitarist, who fronted 80s rock art combo Orange Juice before enjoying solo success with the hit A Girl Like You, was taken ill on Sunday.

A statement from his management team said: "Edwyn Collins suffered a cerebral haemorrhage on Sunday night and has been in hospital since, where doctors are trying to stabilise his condition. As soon as we will have more information we will let you know."

Collins, 45, who lives in London, was working as producer on the debut album from London blues-soul three-piece Little Barrie when he was taken ill.

The artist was born in Edinburgh in 1959. In 1976, he formed the Nu-Sonics, which resurfaced three years later as Orange Juice. The band led the Glasgow neo-pop scene with songs like Rip It Up and earned a devoted cult following but little commercial success.

Despite his trademark soulful baritone, the singer later struggled to launch a solo career and was signed briefly with Alan McGee's Elevation in 1986. After becoming a producer in the 1990s, Collins earned another shot as a performer when he signed with the small UK independent label Setanta. He then recorded his third solo effort, the album Gorgeous George, and its song, A Girl Like You, became a huge international hit in 1995.
