wasted water?

I remember the Walkers telling me the water is expensive in Germany, especially in the Southern regions. I have always wondered just how much the average cost is per m3 .. that is, until my mother handed me a brochure on tariffs in Europe. An average m3 of the (predominantly) clear liquid including VAT is 4,45 Euros in Germany according to the study carried out by NUS consulting in 2004. Those 1000 liters cost a “mere” 2,56 Euros in France but still 2,89 in the United Kingdom and 3,35 for the Netherlands but only 2,50 Euros in Belgium. The Italian 0,68 Euros are still scandalous when you consider how much is available free at cost just a couple hours drive from here. But then again, I guess you are also paying for the water to be treated. You know, I take that back: I’d pay for that water, which becomes warm and yellow after little kids and adults (sorry guys) have played hard, to be purified any day.

I used plenty of the substance this morning – call it water waste, I call it cleanliness – and justify it with the medium water costs for Europe. :) It was with this water that I scrubbed hard today, not knowing just how many showers one is allowed to take in the hospital with a bandage near the ear. Believe me, I will push for it if you are expecting to visit me! Come at your own risk, right?!

Plus, I cannot help cringing at the fact that a whole surgery block gets to gape at your body stark naked. Ahh! I personally, prefer to be clean. Euphonies scrubbed the neck, behind the ears, between the tiny toes and in every imaginable place – and shaved well too :). You tell me that the surgeons have other things on their mind besides your body during an operation, I answer with a wide smile “I don’t care!

Anyway, had that meager breakfast I was promised until 8 am. Now, I am already hungry again and am not allowed to drink water. Help. Weather is perfect for a cozy day in. Not in the operating block, true, but at least I am not missing out on a beautiful day with people playing in the park outside the hospital window. In fact, I was woken up to hail and loud rain against my window. And my poor colleagues are pretty freezing by the look of the weather report. Take care down there girlies!

Gotta run, sunshine.
Catch you at the next post in a few days..
