This mornings' meeting with an advertizing agency was tough. I must have sounded very groggy to say the least. The lady gave me a radio in the shape of a gumby person with a sucction cup to keep me awake. Last night, I wasnt in bed before 4am. The party went well although the day started out rough, to say the very least. There is something about investing hours in a project and in receiving an uninterested approval only for the final decision to be overthrown. The result was a hectic Euphonies running around to get the event organized and finalized in due time using all the help you can get. I should have just taken some photographs of the scene, two telephones, one on each ear, directing a third person to do that and checking up my own finalized work. That morning, I could have killed the guy who said "Does it really take that much time to prepare a company event?" I ended up really delegating, which was excellent for me to learn. I need to learn to trust others in the work they do. You do always have to check up on the work but often, results are good. This was a question of delegating or loosing your mind. So, about 20 people were working on 20 projects. Some small (carry the prizes from my car to the club at this time and ley them here), some big (rework a presentation with 100 slides), but the help was so comforting. The attitude and disponibility of each person is quite revealing at the most stressful times. Most were just there to help, despite attention required on other projects. These people really gained respect in my eyes. Actually, in these situations, you see who you can count on when you are in a bind. The words of encouragement were just awesome and motivated me right to the end.
In the end, the party turned out well. Turn out must have been say 150 interns, but I need to check the numbers. I printed out a minutes schedule, which apparently is not all that common here for parties, but definitely needed for good organization. Catering was excellent, DJ ok, game: a blast, management speech: tiring, powerpoints: to be improved for next year, our DVD: absolutely entertaining, atmosphere: mostly really good.
By 11pm, I was able to relax a bit and chat with quite a few people. I had a few run-ins with colleagues, who were very different under the influence of alcohol but also some winner conversations with some special people. I escaped in the wee hours of the morning to the upper floor to sit and think and to collect my own thoughts. Despite a sip of the company directors' glass of strong spirits, which made my tongue numb and cause it to bleed this morning (allergy?), I was sober. Someone must have seen me, since he joined me to chat about things, which made me think.
All in all, despite the numerous very indecent suggestions, it was a fun evening.
The event of the year will not take place for another 365 days :).
So you can relax, euphonies.
This is usually when Mr. Migrane tends to show up.
